Hyundai plans to extend its SUV range in India through the launch of a sub-four-metre SUV falling in the B-segment and an A-segment SUV that will go against the likes of the Renault Kwid. The first SUV has been codenamed as ‘QXi’ and will rival the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon and the Honda WR-V and is likely to be launched in India by 2019. The second SUV, on the other hand, will make it to Indian roads by 2020. The automaker currently has the Creta and Tucson SUVs in the India line-up (the Santa Fe was discontinued last year).

More details on the A-segment SUV are scarce at the moment but the car is likely to share a lot of similarities including the platform with the new hatchback which the company is developing. The said hatchback is codenamed as AH2 and will be Hyundai’s answer to the Maruti Alto. If sources are to be believed, the Korean carmaker is also planning for a seven-seater variant of the Creta. A confirmation on this is still awaited from Hyundai. Meanwhile, this year, the Verna maker has scheduled the launches of the Elite i20 facelift and Creta facelift. The former is expected to debut at the 2018 Auto Expo (happening next month).

Hyundai isn’t the only automaker considering to launch an SUV in the A-segment. Volkswagen and Maruti are also considering to launch their A-segment SUVs. The German carmaker will name the new SUV as the T-Track and it is likely to be launched in India in 2020.
