The Hyundai Kona, which was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo, will be manufactured at the company’s Chennai plant.

Hyundai’s investment of Rs. 7000 crores will lead to an increase of 1500 jobs

Hyundai had displayed the Kona electric SUV at the 2018 Auto Expo and the vehicle is slated for an India launch towards the second half of 2019. The Korean automaker is going to manufacture the fully electric SUV locally at their plant located in Chennai.

Hyundai India is looking to invest Rs. 7000 crores in their Chennai plant, out of which a portion will be dedicated towards the manufacturing of the Kona. The annual production capacity at the plant will increase from 7 lakh units to 8 lakh units. This investment will also give rise to 1500 new jobs.

The Hyundai Kona EV will have a range of about 350 kms on a full charge and a full charge is expected to take 60 mins. Initially, the manufacturing will be targeted towards domestic customers but later on the company will start exporting the car too.
