The Hyundai Elite i20 was launched in India in 2014 and the premium hatchback has been a runaway success for the company. The earlier i20 was also selling in good numbers and the second generation of the vehicle has just increased its sales. Hyundai has now posted sales of 1 lakh units of the car in 11 months of being in the market. This results in average monthly sales of 9090 units. The Elite i20 also went on to win as many as 25 awards in 2014-15 including the Readers’ choice MotorBeam car of the year award.

The Hyundai Elite i20 sold 10,334 units in May 2015. It competes with other premium hatchbacks like the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Volkswagen Polo and the Fiat Punto Evo. The Swift generated sales of 17,195 units while Volkswagen and Fiat sold 3829 units and 585 units of the Polo and Punto respectively. Other hatchbacks in this price range include the Tata Bolt (716 units), Renault Pulse (126 units), Nissan Micra (712 units), Mahindra Verito Vibe (43 units), Honda Brio (873 units), Ford Figo (900 units) and the Chevrolet Sail U-VA (245 units).

Betting big on the success of the Elite i20, Hyundai then went on to launch its crossover version, the i20 Active, which too has been well received in the market. The Korean automaker also has a widespread service network in India which helps its sales grow. The Elite i20 is powered by a 1.2-litre dual VTVT Kappa engine returning 18.6 km/l of ARAI-tested fuel efficiency and a 1.4-litre U2 CRDI diesel engine giving out 22.54 km/l of mileage as stated by ARAI. The Hyundai Elite i20 is priced between Rs. 6.29 – 9.71 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai).
