The ongoing 2014 Busan International Motor Show in Korea has some very interesting exhibits from Hyundai on display. Apart from the AG and Grandeur premium sedans unveiled at the motor show earlier, Hyundai also unveiled the Veloster Midship concept sports car. While the sporty yet regular Veloster gets a front-engined, front-wheel drive layout, the Midship concept as the name suggests has the engine located behind the driver and sends power to the rear wheels only.
The Hyundai Veloster Midship two-seater concept is powered by a 2.0-litre Theta GDI turbocharged engine that produces 299 PS of power. The concept gets the latest high performance technologies from the company inclusive of the lightweight aluminium suspension, a high rigidity chassis, a mid-engined (RM – rear midship) mini supercar layout and a motorsport inspired aero kit. Hyundai states that locating the engine behind the occupants and within the wheelbase offers ideal weight distribution and handling balance through corners.
We really love hot hatchbacks at MotorBeam; they are powerful, light and mind numbingly fast and keeping those premises in mind, the Veloster Midship concept has certainly impressed us all. Too bad though, that the Hyundai Veloster Midship will remain as a concept and was designed to explore the possibilities of the Veloster chassis and is currently not related to any future model. The Veloster Midship concept has been developed by Hyundai’s High Performance Team, who also developed the i20 WRC in its initial form.
