The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R was selling in good numbers when it was being sold as a CBU (completely built unit). But after Kawasaki started selling the bike as a CKD (completely knocked down) unit, it is now being reported that the bike is sold out.

The sudden increase in sales is thanks to the price reduction of the Ninja ZX-10R from Rs. 18.8 lakhs to Rs. 12.8 lakhs (all prices, ex-showroom). Rs. 6 lakhs is a huge amount of price cut and Kawasaki deserves appreciation for this move.

The first lot of 100 units of the India assembled Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R have been sold out while a single bike hasn’t been delivered yet. Kawasaki India had last year done a similar thing with its Ninja 1000 model. The price of the bike were slashed by a considerable amount after Kawasaki started selling it as a SKD (Semi-Knock Down unit) instead of CBU (completely built unit).

For those of you who don’t know, the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R is powered by a 998cc, liquid-cooled, inline 4 engine producing 197 HP and 113.5 Nm of torque. It does a 0-100 km/hr in 2.8 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 299 km/hr. The motorcycle also comes loaded with clever gadgetry like launch control and traction control.

In terms of price, the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R rivals the Suzuki Hayabusa while in terms of performance, it competes with the Yamaha R1, Suzuki GSX1000R and BMW S1000RR.
