Honda has revealed a lot of details about the upcoming BR-V compact SUV. The automaker claims that it is better than rivals in many aspects.

The Honda BR-V created a lot of buzz when it was first showcased earlier this year. The Japanese automaker has now revealed more details about the vehicle. Honda has developed the vehicle to cater to four needs – Active, Family, Outstanding and Utility. The company’s engineers have designed the vehicle keeping in mind various factors like high ground clearance, engine performance, safety, mileage, sporty design, space for seven people and a good boot capacity.

The Honda BR-V is powered by a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine that has been tuned for improved mileage as well as power delivery. The engine produces 118 HP of power at 6000 RPM and 145 Nm of torque from 4600 RPM. The powerplant gets piston stroke noise reduction and a high torque starter. The engine also gets reduction of friction through zigzag pattern coating on piston, cooling control spacer and EGR, which translates into better fuel economy. Diesel power will come from the same 1.5-litre i-DTEC mill which powers the City (with a 6-speed manual gearbox), there won’t be a 1.6-litre diesel engine on offer as rumoured earlier.

The interiors of the vehicle are similar to other Honda cars. The dashboard is shared with the City sedan (with the steering from the Brio) and the second and third rows have been optimised for space and comfort. Honda claims the BR-V has more head and knee room in the rear rows as compared to its closest rival. The vehicle has a ground clearance of 201 mm while its height is 1666 mm. The length and width of the BR-V are 4456 mm and 1735 mm respectively. The exterior styling of the vehicle will have a blend of practicality and sportiness.

Honda will also offer a CVT gearbox because the demand for automatic boxes is rising thanks to the fact that they are the need of the day. The CVT gearbox has also been given a few tweaks like expanded ratio range, reduced friction and reduced frame weight for better mileage while it also gets a G design shift and a new final gear that complements an SUV. Compared to rivals, Honda claims that the BR-V excels in areas like long wheel base, wide tread, high ground clearance, optimised geometry, accurate handling and comfortable ride.

The Honda BR-V will also have better rough road stability, harshness levels, response, smooth ride, vibration and noise levels and handling as compare to rivals. The vehicle gets 195/60/16 tyres. Overall, the Honda BR-V will hopefully perform nicely when we talk about fuel economy, acceleration, handling and stability, ride quality, NVH levels, AC performance and space for the rear rows.
