Hyundai will enter into the compact SUV segment with the ix25 that was showcased at the Beijing Motor Show earlier this year. The compact SUV is scheduled for a market launch on the 9th of October in China, the first market to get the ix25 and was spotted on test revealing the interiors of the compact SUV, ahead of launch. As these spy shots indicate, the heavily clad ix25 on test was the top-end variant with a 2.0-litre engine with all-wheel drive, while the interiors are packed with all the bells and whistles.
The exteriors are reminiscent of the ix25 concept model showcased at the Beijing Motor Show. The tail lights come from the concept model; while the front is also expected to be the same, albeit with certain changes to meet production requirements. Coming to the interior design of the compact SUV, the ix25 takes heavy inspiration from its older sibling the Hyundai Santa Fe. The centre console follows the waterfall design from the Santa Fe and comes with a well laid vertical layout of controls and switches.
The audio system in the centre is done up in black and is flanked by air-con vents with brushed silver accents. The ix25 compact also features a 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel with tilt and telescopic adjustment. The instrument cluster is large and holds an MID screen in the centre displaying all the vital stats of the car. Overall, the dashboard looks clean, class and very premium courtesy of the Santa Fe influence. The exteriors of the ix25 did receive positive reviews at the reveal and the interior looks splendid as well.
Scheduled to launch later this year, the China spec Hyundai ix25 will be powered by a 2.0-litre engine, while an optional 1.6-litre unit will be on the cards. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions that will be sending power to all four wheels on the top end model. In India, the ix25 will make its debut in 2015 and will be competing against the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, Maruti Suzuki S-Cross and the likes in the segment.
