Looks massive, doesn’t it? That is because, it is

Jeep has unveiled the Grand Wagoneer concept, marking the return of a 3-row model and also the return of the nameplate on what will be a full-size luxury SUV.

Set to go into production next year at FCA’s Warren Assembly Plant in Michigan by summer next year, the SUV is in essence an SUV version of the Ram 1500 pickup. But, there are differences to both, like the use of independent rear suspension setup and obviously the way they look.

There will be two versions of the car, namely the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. The latter model is expected to cost close to $100,000 (Rs. 73.47 lakhs), while the base price of the standard model is likely to begin from $60,000 (Rs. 44 lakhs).

Design of the car is as blingy as it gets, with large lighting elements that have intricate detailing, tonnes of chrome, 24-inch wheels to make it a full-on badass SUV concept. Had it been specced completely in black, we could have sworn that it will be used as the next Bond villain’s personal getaway car.

Inside, we there are seven digital screens adorning the rich cabin draped in a mix of leather and wood. The Grand Wagoneer name is written below the passenger-side screen and even the rear passengers would not have much to complain about, apart from the need to climb about seven km high to enter the tall car.

When they do enter the car, they’ll be greeted by captain chairs in the second row, while Jeep might also offer a bench instead should owners wish to accommodate more people inside.

For sure it is no Rolls-Royce, but the interior of the Jeep Grand Wagoneer Concept sure looks very good. Hopefully, Jeep maintains this rich look on the production car. Also, the brand will offer FCA’s latest UConnect 5 infotainment system and as an option, a premium audio system from McIntosh on the car that will be put on sale.

What is unclear at the moment is if Jeep will offer the SUV with two different wheelbase lengths like its chief rivals do. However, what is clear is that the car will be powered by a hybrid powertrain.

Speculations are that the 3.6-litre V6 with hybrid assist offered on the Ram 1500 pickup might power the car. But there is no confirmation on that front. But, the SUV will get 4-wheel-drive as standard with three different systems mooted, while air suspension would be an optional extra.
