Kia Carens crash test rating is 3 stars with the latest Global NCAP safety protocols

Kia Carens has undergone fresh crash test by Global NCAP, revealing mixed results. The vehicle received a 3-star rating overall, an improvement from its previous 0-star rating for adult occupancy protection when tested under new protocols. Notably, models produced between May and December 2023 scored poorly in adult occupancy protection due to inadequate neck protection for the driver, marginal protection for the chest and knees of both driver and passenger.

However, Kia took swift action to enhance the Carens’ safety features, particularly its restraint systems, following the initial test results. This resulted in a notable improvement in adult occupancy protection for models produced after 11th December, 2023, earning them a 3-star rating. Despite this progress, Global NCAP expressed disappointment, considering the Carens’ provision of six airbags as standard.

Moreover, the body shell integrity of the Carens was found to be unstable in frontal impacts in both tests, raising concerns about its ability to withstand further loadings. Additionally, the absence of a side pole impact test due to the 3-star rating highlights areas for potential improvement.

On a positive note, the Carens demonstrated enhanced child occupancy protection in the latest tests, achieving a 5-star rating compared to its previous 4-star rating. This improvement can be attributed to the upgraded restraint system.

It is equipped with features like ESC, rear parking sensors, hill-start assist, rear disc brakes, three-point seat belts for all seats and ISOFIX anchors.

The Carens is available with both petrol and diesel engine options. It competes with the likes of Maruti Ertiga, Maruti XL6 and Toyota Rumion.

Global NCAP has also conducted crash tests of the Honda Amaze and Bolero Neo that have scored 2 stars and 1 star respectively.
