Maruti XL6 Review

The Maruti XL6 is the premium derivative of the Maruti Ertiga. Maruti launched the XL6 back in 2019. The Maruti XL6 is made available through the NEXA dealerships. The XL in the name means “Exclusive” & the 6 in its name is the sign that this one is a proper 6 seater MPV. Because of its styling, it stands out from the Ertiga. Let’s do a thorough analysis to find out more about the Maruti XL6.

Pros – Spacious Third Row, Comfortable Ride, Good Looking

Cons – No Diesel Engine, Lazy Automatic Transmission, Fuel Efficiency Could Be Better

Maruti XL6 Exteriors

The Maruti XL6 looks more rugged and bold from the front. The high bonnet line gives an SUV character to the car. The blacked-out grille with horizontal slats has a bold appeal. There is a chrome strip in the grille which connects the DRLs. The XL6 gets an all-LED headlight unit. From the side, the car looks good with the claddings but the 15-inch wheels look small for a car of this size and don’t match with the car. Other highlights are the solid-looking roof-rails and blacked-out wing mirrors. From the rear, the bumper gets the silver cladding added to it.

Maruti XL6 Interiors

Maruti has tried giving the premium feel from the inside as well. The interior of the XL6 gets an all-black theme. The fake black ash wood treatment on the dashboard, leatherette seats, the horizontal lines connecting the AC vents uplifts the overall cabin experience. The dials are carried from the Ertiga, and the MID also has great graphics. The XL6 comes equipped with Maruti’s SmartPlay infotainment system. It supports Navigation, Voice Commands, Bluetooth, USB & AUX connectivity, steering mounted controls, 4 speakers + 2 tweeters, MirrorLink for smartphone connectivity. Other features include automatic climate control, auto headlamps, air-cooled cup holders, electrically adjustable, and foldable ORVMs, reverse parking camera, reverse parking sensors, cruise control, and much more.

Maruti XL6 Space

The significant change in the XL6 from the Ertiga is in the middle row. Maruti removed the bench seat, which is there in the Ertiga, and replaced it with a pair of captain seats. The seats are comfortable however, taller passengers might feel that under-thigh support a bit lacking. The middle row seats do not tumble up completely to access the third row. However, it is surprising to find the amount of the knee room available in the last row of the XL6. With all the three rows up, there is a fair amount of boot space present. However, to increase the boot carrying capacity we can fold the third-row seats.

Maruti XL6 Engine Performance

The Maruti XL6 comes with a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine with Smart Hybrid Technology. The engine churns out a power output of 104 HP @ 6000 RPM and a torque output of 138 Nm @ 4400 RPM. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or an old-school 4-speed torque convertor. The engine delivers smooth and linear performance in the low end. The mid-range is flat so for quick overtaking you will have to work to change the gears. The engine becomes a bit noisy at higher RPMs. The clutch feels light, and the gear throws are also precise. The automatic feels lazy, and it is good for city traffic. The fuel economy comes at the cost of the automatic.

Maruti XL6 Mileage

The BS6 Maruti XL6 has an ARAI fuel efficiency of 19.01 km/l for the manual transmission, and 17.99 km/l for the automatic transmission. In the real-world conditions, it will return around 12-14 km/l in city traffic conditions and 14-17 km/l out on the highways for the manual transmission. The automatic will return around 7-10 km/l in city traffic conditions and 11-14 km/l out on the highways. However, fuel efficiency also depends upon the style of driving and traffic conditions.

Maruti XL6 Handling

The steering of the XL6 feels light at low speeds, and weighs up a bit at high speeds but could have done with more feedback and feel. Since the XL6 is an MPV it does have a fair amount of body-roll which is felt when you push the car hard. At high speeds, the XL6 feels well planted.

Maruti XL6 Comfort

The suspension of the XL6 is tuned on the softer side. The suspension absorbs the potholes and bad patches of the road nicely. There is some amount of body roll, but it is well contained.

Maruti XL6 Safety

In terms of the safety equipment, the XL6 is equipped with dual airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assistance, ISOFIX child seat mounts, seat belt pre-tensioner & force limiters, high-speed alert. In automatic, you also get ESP with hill hold.
