KTM 390 Adventure R India

KTM 390 Adventure R India launch likely in January 2026 with off-road upgrades

KTM India is preparing to introduce the 390 Adventure R in the Indian market, with the launch expected to take place in January 2026. The decision follows sustained interest from enthusiasts looking for a more off-road-focused version of the 390 Adventure.

Bookings for the new adventure motorcycle are likely to open within the next few days, while customer deliveries are expected to begin in early January 2026. Official pricing details have not been announced yet.

The 390 Adventure R is positioned as a more hardcore alternative to the existing 390 Adventure S, with a stronger emphasis on off-road capability while retaining touring-friendly characteristics. One of the key upgrades comes in the form of suspension travel. The R variant offers 230 mm of wheel travel at both the front and rear, compared to the 200 mm front and 205 mm rear travel available on the S variant.

Wheel configuration is another major differentiator. The Adventure R features a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheel setup, a combination typically preferred for challenging off-road terrain. In comparison, the 390 Adventure S uses a 21-inch front and 17-inch rear tubeless spoke wheel arrangement, which is more road-biased.

Ground clearance has also been increased to 272 mm on the Adventure R, making it better suited for rough trails and obstacles. The Adventure S, by contrast, offers a ground clearance of 237 mm. Additionally, the R variant is lighter by approximately 6 kg, with a kerb weight of 176 kg.

Mechanically, both variants remain unchanged. Power comes from the same 398.6cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine, producing 45.3 BHP and 39 Nm of torque, paired with modern electronics and rider aids expected from the platform.

While pricing is yet to be confirmed, KTM may follow a strategy similar to its Enduro lineup, where the international-spec Enduro R was priced at a modest premium over the standard Enduro. If applied here, the 390 Adventure R could command a slight premium over the current 390 Adventure, which is priced at Rs. 3.95 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
