KTM launches hardcore 390 Adventure R in India at a lower price
KTM has quietly added a new top-spec variant to its adventure lineup in India with the launch of the 390 Adventure R at Rs. 3.78 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Interestingly, the R variant is priced lower than the standard 390 Adventure that comes with spoked wheels, which currently retails at Rs. 3.97 lakhs (ex-showroom).
The 390 Adventure R has been positioned as the most off-road-focused version of the model range. It shares its suspension and wheel configuration with the export-spec 390 Enduro R, bringing long-travel suspension of 230 mm at both ends and a more dirt-oriented 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel setup with tubed Mitas Enduro Trail tyres. By comparison, the standard India-spec 390 Adventure uses a 21/17-inch combination with tubeless Apollo tyres and offers less suspension travel.
These hardware changes result in a notably taller seat height of 870 mm and a generous 272 mm of ground clearance on the 390 Adventure R. Other elements remain familiar. The motorcycle uses the same 399cc single-cylinder engine producing 46 HP and 39 Nm, paired with a 6-speed gearbox and a bidirectional quickshifter. The frame, bodywork and electronics package are also largely unchanged from the standard model, though the R variant is currently offered only in a white and orange colour scheme.
The R variant also ends up lighter in overseas specification, with the UK model weighing 176 kg fully fuelled, which is around six kilograms less than the India-spec standard 390 Adventure. The final India weight may vary depending on mandatory components such as the saree guard and front number plate holder.
At its current price point, the 390 Adventure R sits below the standard spoked-wheel variant, likely due to the use of tubed wheel hardware instead of the more expensive tubeless-enabled spoke rims. KTM India’s website lists the booking amount at Rs. 1999, which is refundable. With this addition, the brand now offers a wider spread of 390 Adventure variants catering to riders with different levels of off-road interest and skill.
