KTM is on a roll with back to back product introductions and increased sales, both globally and internationally. India itself accounts for a quarter of their overall sales with the Duke 790 being the newest addition to the family. To continue with this trend, KTM is going to bring 5 new models of the 490 series.

The 490 family is going to comprise of the following 5 models – the Duke 490, RC 490, Adventure 490, Supermoto 490 and the Enduro 490. The Supermoto and Enduro may be named as SMC 490 and EXC 490 respectively.

The models are likely to come with a 490cc parallel twin-cylinder motor with liquid-cooling, 8-valves, DOHC setup. The peak power figure may reach to 60 PS. The motor will use a 6-speed transmission with a slipper clutch. Moreover, the performance figures are more or less going to remain the same throughout the range. However, the gear ratios and engine mapping will vary from model to model.

In terms of suspension, each of the models will have inverted front forks with a rear monoshock. Braking will be done by discs on both ends, further assisted by a ‘switchable’ dual-channel ABS. Almost every other technical specification is going to differ because of their different characteristics. For instance – dimensions, wheel sizes, wheel travel rate, etc.

The Supermoto and the Enduro have a chance to get a modified version of the existing chassis. The Supermoto range, in general, includes the 690 SMC R which is constructed around a chrome-moly tubular space frame. The Enduro range uses a central-tube frame with double-cradle. The rest – Duke 490, RC 490 and Adventure 490 will get a revamped trellis frame to harbour a wider engine.

Design-wise, the graphics and other visuals are likely to remain similar or carry a slight degree of changes from their counterparts. So chances are positive that we may get to see full-LED headlamp set up along with a coloured TFT display featuring Bluetooth connectivity.

It is likely that the Austrian company is going to reveal more details about the new line-up at the upcoming EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy.
