KTM Scooter Concept
KTM’s new electric scooter will follow the same design language as the sketch

With KTM booming its 2-wheeler line-up with various new offerings, it will soon have a foothold in almost all engine capacities. And now, the Austrian brand seems ready to step-foot in the scooter segment with the KTM Electric Scooter.

While KTM submitted some sketches of the same to a magazine, the sketch seems to be based on the brand’s E-Speed project, which was first shown at the 2013 Tokyo Moto Show as a concept.

Although the offering will supposedly be the smallest offering by the international brand, it will serve as a stepping-stone to KTM’s much-awaited electric line.

KTM previously announced that it plans on developing an electric range, including high-end models in collaboration with our very own Indian brand, Bajaj. The target launch date, according to KTM, is 2022.

Further, KTM might develop their first scooter under the same strategy as the iconic Bajaj Chetak’s electric counterpart. Currently, the Chetak comes with a 3800 W motor and makes about 6 BHP. We can expect a more powerful iteration of the same in KTM’s version.

There is a possibility of the electric scooter sharing its underpinnings with the Bajaj Chetak electric. We also expect KTM to introduce their electric scooter in India, when it comes into flesh, after all, India is their biggest retail market.

It will be interesting to see how the Austrian giant adapts to battery-operated electric 2-wheelers and the variety of products they introduce in their electric lineup. After their first electric scooter, maybe we’ll see an electric Dakar Rally bike?
