Lamborghini Sian Roadster — Only 19 units of the hybrid super sports car will be produced

The Lamborghini Sián Roadster has been unveiled and all 19 units of the limited edition open-top super sports car have already been sold.

Design-wise the Sián Roadster is inspired by the Terzo Millennio concept and has striking Y-shaped headlights up front, a low splitter and a highly raked windscreen.

While the huge air intake for the big engine dominates the side profile, the rear of the car has six hexagonal tail lights, again inspired by the Countach. The rear wing is integrated with the body and extends only when needed.

It is evident that aerodynamic efficiency has formulated the bold design. Lamborghini says that the roadster does not lose any aerodynamic efficiency in comparison with the coupe version.

Inside, there are no changes. The air vents are 3D printed and Lamborghini’s Ad Personam department works with every Sián Roadster client to personalise the car.

The most powerful road-legal model from Automobili Lamborghini to date is also a hybrid. The brand’s 6.5-litre V12 in itself produces 785 HP at 8500 RPM.

A 48-volt e-motor, delivering 34 HP, is incorporated into the gearbox to produce a total combined output of 819 HP.

The Lamborghini Sián Roadster will cover the 0-100 km/hr sprint in 2.9 seconds and reach a top speed of over 350 km/hr. It has a weight-to-power ratio of 2.0 kg/HP.

But what is impressive is how the hybrid system works. It uses a supercapacitor that is located between the cockpit and engine.

Lamborghini says it is three times more powerful than a battery of the same weight and three times lighter than a battery producing the same power.

The supercapacitor and the electric motor weigh only 34 kg (combined) and efficiency is said to be the same during both charging and discharging cycles.

The energy storage system fully charges every time the Sián Roadster’s brakes are applied. Also, the electric motor disconnects when the car accelerates past 130 km/hr.

There are more cool stuff like the active cooling vanes on the rear that use unique materials patented by the Italian manufacturer.

Operation of the vanes is triggered by the reaction of material elements to the temperature generated by the exhaust system, causing them to rotate and provide cooling.

The Sián was priced at $3.6 million (Rs. 27 crores). So, expect the Sián Roadster to cost a bit more. However, who is to care? All 19 units of the very rare car have already been accounted for.
