The production-spec Lamborghini Urus has been unveiled, is the world’s fastest SUV with a top speed of 306 km/hr!

Lamborghini showed us the Urus Concept vehicle back in 2012 and now over 5 years later, the production version of the Super SUV breaks cover. A spiritual successor to the LM002 double-cab pickup launched in 1986, the Italian automaker expects the Urus to become its best-selling model after it goes on sale globally next year and also to nearly double its overall volumes. Prices for the Urus start at $2,00,000 (approximately Rs. 1.28 crore) in the US.

The Lamborghini Urus looks butch, brawny yet lean. The front LED headlights have the familiar Y shape as in other Lamborghinis. The chiselled bonnet and the aggressively styled front bumper add a hint of sophistication to the front fascia. Wheel options range from 21 to 23-inches fitted with all-season Pirelli tyres developed specially for the Urus. The coupe-like roofline blends well with the rear profile and you get slimmer Y-shaped LED tail-lights, high-set rear bumper with silver skid plate and four tail-pipes.

The interior is typical Lamborghini, luxurious yet sporty. The SUV gets not one, not two but three TFT screens in the cabin. One for the instrument console, one for the infotainment and finally one for the climate control and other functions. The infotainment screen gets Apple CarPlay, Android Auto connectivity and is paired with an 8-speaker sound system as standard while a 21-speaker Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system is offered as optional.

The three-spoke multi-function steering wheel incorporates a vibration damper to enhance comfort in all driving conditions. The company will offer a wide range of customisation options for the interior through a selection of different kinds of colours and materials such as natural leather, Alcantara, wood finish and even carbon fibre. The Urus can be had in either 4-seater or 5-seater options.

Under the hood, the Italian SUV gets a 4.0-litre V8 bi-turbo petrol motor that churns out 650 HP at 6000 RPM and 850 Nm of torque at 2250-4500 RPM. The powerplant is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and also gets permanent four-wheel drive with active torque vectoring. The SUV does the 0-100 km/hr in under 3.6 seconds, 0-200 km/hr in 12.8 seconds and the top speed is rated at 306 km/hr in spite of weighing almost 2200 kgs! These figures don’t just make it the world’s fastest SUV but also puts it in the league of some acclaimed sports cars as well. The engine gets seven driving modes – Strada, Terra, Neve (snow), Sabbia (sand), Sport, Corsa and Ego.

Other features in the Lamborghini Urus are rear-wheel steering, carbon ceramic brakes and adaptive air-suspension. The vehicle will go against the likes of the Range Rover Autobiography and its cousins Porsche Cayenne and Bentley Bentayga.
