India-made Jeep Compass has scored a 5-star rating in ANCAP tests.

Results of Jeep Compass ANCAP tests are out and the 5-seater SUV has passed with flying colours obtaining a score of 5 stars. ANCAP (Australasian NCAP) has been assessing commercial and passenger vehicles entering New Zealand and Australia on their safety parameters since 1993. The cars tested in the latest batch include the Volkswagen Caddy, Kia Niro, LDV D90 (SUV), Volkswagen Arteon and Jeep Compass.
The Jeep Compass used for testing is a right-hand-drive version manufactured at the Ranjangaon plant located in Pune, Maharashtra. It was equipped with a total of 9 airbags (side, head, knee and dual front), ABS, electronic stability control and seat belt reminders. The car was introduced in New Zealand and Australia earlier this month and the 5-star rating applies to all units produced from September 2017. India is the sole manufacturing hub for the right-hand-drive Jeep Compass.
Coming to the test results, the Jeep Compass got an impressive overall score of 35.93 out of 37 points. In the frontal offset crash test where it scored 14.93 out of maximum 16 points, head and neck protection of front seat occupants was rated as good and protection of their legs and chest area was termed as acceptable. The SUV scored full marks in side barrier and pole tests. Pedestrian safety was rated as good with the Compass scoring 29.01 out of 36 points.
Whiplash protection has been rated as good. From next year onwards, ANCAP tests will become more stringent as the lowest score achieved in any parameter will be the deciding factor in the overall rating. In India, the Jeep Compass is available in petrol and diesel fuel options with safety equipment comprising of 6 airbags, ABS, electronic stability control and more. The left-hand-drive Compass got a 5-star rating in Euro NCAP recently.
