We all are aware of Mahindra’s current plans that mentions of no new products to be launched before the year 2016. Until then the manufacturer will launch the updated versions of their current lineup as a stop gap measure. Mahindra believes that they are ahead of the competition and have done their major launches in the recent past. However, the manufacturer is facing decline in their sales with increased SUV tax and fluctuating diesel prices. The competition is also getting stiffer, for instance the decline in sales of the Scorpio, as Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport are gaining popularity.

Even Tata Motors are undergoing heavy developments secretly with the help of Jaguar Land Rover to come up with a new platform that can churn out a range of new products. Keeping this in mind, the current situation has stimulated Mahindra to ramp up their plans for introducing new and updated products in the country. Mahindra is expected to have 12-15 products in their pipeline until 2020 and each year they have an outlay of around Rs. 500 – Rs. 800 crores for product development. They have planned a range of vehicles from the entry level segment to the premium segment.

Starting with the facelifts in the near future, Mahindra is planning to update the Scorpio with significant changes on both exteriors and interiors. Next update is likely to be done on the Thar, which is a bare bone off-roading SUV. Starting from 2015, the carmaker is expected to launch new products including a micro SUV codenamed as S101, intended to be a volume churner. A premium version will also be launched (S102). Other new products include a global MPV, new Bolero, refurbished Xylo and the all-new Scorpio. SsangYong Korando C and Tourismo are also under consideration for future launch.
