The 2.2-litre petrol engine with a manual gearbox is likely to be launched later

Mahindra is all geared up to launch the XUV500 with a petrol-powered engine. The engine will be a 2.2-litre unit churning out 140 horses and 320 Nm of torque. This engine will initially come mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The new 2.2-litre petrol motor will be based on the same engine block that is the foundation for the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. Coming to the variants, the XUV500 petrol will get the ‘G’ codification as opposed to the ‘W’ that the diesel gets. If sources are to be believed, there would be only a single variant launched called the XUV500 G9 petrol. Though this petrol engine would initially get an automatic gearbox only, a manual gearbox is likely to join later.

The Mahindra XUV500 G9 petrol will get a touchscreen infotainment system but is likely to lose out on leather seats and alloy wheels. The G9 trim is also expected to get only two airbags.
