The specs of Maruti’s upcoming 1.5-litre diesel engine have been revealed ahead of its launch.

2018 Maruti Ciaz Video Review

The Maruti Ertiga and Ciaz are all set to get the 1.5-litre diesel engine developed in-house by the automaker to replace the ageing 1.3-litre DDiS engine that has been available in various cars since more than a decade now.

This 1.5-litre diesel engine produces 94 HP at 4000 RPM and 220 Nm of torque. It will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and no AMT will be offered at least for now. For the Ertiga, the new engine will be available in the VDi, ZDi and ZDi+ trims while the Ciaz will get the engine in the Delta, Zeta and Alpha trims.

The base Ertiga LDi and the Ciaz Sigma variants are expected to continue with the 1.3-litre diesel engine only for now. With the introduction of the new 1.5-litre diesel engine, the Ertiga and the Ciaz will cease to come with Maruti’s Smart Hybrid system.

The new engine will be offered as a BS4 unit initially and then before the April 2020 it will be upgraded to comply with BS6 norms. After the Ertiga and Ciaz, other Maruti diesel cars like the Baleno, Swift, Dzire and S-Cross will get the same engine too.
