Maruti Suzuki is on the top spot now in terms of UV sales overtaking Mahindra since the Vitara Brezza compact SUV is selling like hot cakes.
Mahindra is the king of utility vehicles and have a slew of models on sale which helps them top the UV sales chart. However, Maruti Suzuki has now overtaken Mahindra to take the lead in the UV race. India’s largest car manufacturer sold 17,382 units of UVs in July while Mahindra managed to sell 15,692 units. This increase in UV sales for the Indo-Japanese automaker is all thanks to the Maruti Vitara Brezza.
Meanwhile, it was Toyota which came in third with the Innova Crysta leading the charge. This is despite ban on sales of both the Innova and Fortuner in Delhi NCR by the NGT. Toyota sold 8356 units while Hyundai comes in at fourth position with 8004 units, the Creta leading the charge. Ford is fifth with 5583 units sold thanks to the EcoSport.
Maruti Suzuki has tripled UV sales post the arrival of the Vitara Brezze, helping them to corner 24% of the market while Mahindra, even after having an increase in sales, has seen market share fall to 30% (from 36% in the first quarter of the calendar year). Like Maruti, Hyundai too has improved market share.
Maruti Suzuki’s success in the UV market is all thanks to the Vitara Brezza which has helped the company to not only boost overall sales (posting record numbers) but also make a dent in the competitive compact SUV segment. The company sold 10,232 units of the Vitara Brezza last month and recently hiked prices of the vehicle. Over 1 lakh bookings have been received for the Vitara Brezza, forcing Maruti Suzuki to postpone the launch of the Ignis to free up production capacity.
