Maruti electric MPV to get a range of around 550 km on full charge

Maruti Suzuki, in collaboration with Toyota, is preparing to launch a new addition to its electric vehicle lineup with the YMC electric MPV. Scheduled for a debut in India by September 2026, the YMC is anticipated to be Maruti’s inaugural venture into the electric MPV segment.

The YMC electric MPV, codenamed for development purposes, is poised to leverage the same platform utilised by the eVX electric SUV. This shared architecture underscores Maruti’s strategic approach to maximising efficiency and flexibility across its electric vehicle range. The platform’s adaptability allows for the accommodation of diverse body styles, paving the way for Maruti to diversify its product lineup effectively.

Drawing parallels with its gasoline-powered counterparts, the YMC is expected to inherit several design cues and features from Maruti’s existing MPV models. This includes a three-row seating configuration which currently includes models such as the Ertiga and XL6.

While specific details regarding the YMC remain scarce, it is anticipated to share key components with the eVX, including battery options and powertrain elements. With potential battery configurations ranging from a 40kWh unit to a larger 60kWh variant, the YMC aims to offer a competitive range, mirroring the eVX’s claimed maximum range of 550 km.

By leveraging economies of scale and sharing components across its electric vehicle lineup, Maruti endeavours to enhance affordability and accessibility for consumers seeking electric alternatives.
