Suzuki Jimny Front
Sadly, the 3-door version is only for exports

We know that Maruti Suzuki aims to introduce the Jimny 5-door in India in the near future. Now, it turns out, the automaker is looking to launch the SUV by July 2022.

At present the country’s top carmaker is busy churning out up to 1500 units of the 3-door JImny at its Manesar plant. However, that car is only for exports.

Its 5-door variant, on the other hand, will only be produced in India and will also be sold in the country through the brand’s NEXA outlets.

Internally codenamed YWD, the Jimny 5-door’s plans have been finalised and a request for quote (RFQ) will be sent to suppliers within this month.

Like its 3-door sibling, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door will also come powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that is likely to put out 103 HP and 138 Nm of torque.

Maruti has planned to launch a compact crossover, the second generation Vitara Brezza compact SUV and its Hyundai Creta rivalling midsize SUV in 2022.

Now, with the addition of the Jimny 5-door launch the same year, we might see 1 new product introduction every quarter that year from Maruti.
