Maruti Swift & Dzire strong hybrid to return 35-40 km/l!

Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch Swift and Dzire strong hybrid versions in India. The carmaker is expected to launch the cars in the first quarter of 2024.

The hybrid powertrain will be offered in the new generation models that are currently under testing phase. The strong hybrid powertrain could make them the most fuel efficient cars in India.

With the 1.2-litre petrol hybrid system, the carmaker is targeting fuel efficiency of 35-40 km/l. The 1.2-litre petrol engine though will be a 3-cylinder unit unlike the current K-Series 4-cylinder unit.

This engine will be paired with Toyota’s strong hybrid tech. We have seen this hybrid tech recently in the Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

Higher fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions will further boost the CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) ratings for the carmaker.

Hybrid variants are currently expensive but Maruti and Toyota both are working together for heavy localisation of this tech to bring the costs down.

Maruti is targeting to bring down the price difference between mild hybrid and strong hybrid variants to Rs. 1-1.5 lakhs.

The next generation Maruti Swift and Dzire will also get naturally aspirated 1.2-litre K-Series petrol motor along with the strong hybrid variants.
