Mercedes introduces CLA 200 Standard Range variant ahead of India launch

Mercedes-Benz India has announced the introduction of a second variant for the upcoming all-electric CLA ahead of its official launch in the country. Alongside the previously revealed CLA 250+ Long Range, the company will also offer the CLA 200 Standard Range, expanding the lineup to cater to different customer requirements.

For the Indian market, Mercedes-Benz has indicated a tentative ex-showroom price of around Rs. 55 lakhs for the CLA 200 Standard Range and Rs. 59 lakhs for the CLA 250+ Long Range, although final prices will depend on foreign exchange rates at the time of launch, expected in mid-April 2026.

Bookings for the new CLA BEV have now opened across India with a reservation amount of Rs 1.5 lakh. Deliveries of the CLA 250+ Long Range are expected to begin by late April 2026, while the CLA 200 Standard Range will follow from June 2026.

According to Mercedes-Benz, the introduction of the CLA 200 variant is based on customer feedback requesting an additional option with a different driving range and styling approach. The new version will feature the Progressive Line design, which includes comfort seats, a multifunction sports leather steering wheel and two interior trim choices.

Both the CLA 200 Standard Range and the CLA 250+ Long Range are expected to offer similar equipment levels, with the company maintaining a consistent feature set across variants.

In terms of range, the CLA 250+ Long Range is rated at up to 792 km, while the CLA 200 Standard Range is claimed to deliver up to 542 km on a single charge.

The electric sedan is built on an 800-volt architecture, enabling high-speed charging capabilities. Using a 240 kW DC fast charger, the CLA 250+ can add around 400 km of range in about 20 minutes, while the CLA 200 is expected to gain approximately 320 km in the same time.

Mercedes-Benz also highlighted its expanding charging ecosystem, which currently includes access to over 9000 charging points through the MB.CHARGE Public network. Additionally, the vehicle’s MBUX virtual assistant with intelligent navigation can help drivers plan charging stops during longer journeys.

Customers will also have the option of installing a Mercedes-Benz Wall Box charger at home, capable of delivering charging power of up to 22 kW. The unit, including installation through Mercedes-Benz franchise partners, is priced at Rs. 50,000. Buyers who pre-book the CLA BEV will receive the wall box charger at no additional cost.

With the addition of the CLA 200 variant, Mercedes-Benz aims to broaden the appeal of its new electric sedan as interest in premium EVs continues to grow in India.
