Mercedes launched the CLA45 AMG in India in 2014 and now the regular CLA sedan is all set to make its entry into the market. The Mercedes CLA will be launched on 22nd January 2015 and dealers have already started accepting bookings for the vehicle. The CLA looks droolworthy and there are going to be many buyers opting for this vehicle just for the looks itself. While the A-Class, B-Class and GLA are imported as CBUs, the CLA will be brought down via the CKD route and assembled at the automaker’s plant at Chakan.

The Mercedes CLA will be offered with two engines. The petrol engine is a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged unit capable of churning out 181 BHP of power at 5500 RPM and 300 Nm of torque between 1200-1400 RPM. The engine is matched to a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox and accelerates from 0-100 km/hr in just 7.8 seconds while the top speed is said to be 235 km/hr. A fuel efficiency of 15.04 km/l has been claimed by the German carmaker.

The diesel variants will get a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder engine producing 134 BHP of power between 3600-4400 RPM and 300 Nm of torque between 1600-3000 RPM. The oil burner also gets the same 7-speed DCT AT unit and 0-100 km/hr takes 9.8 seconds. Top speed is said to be 220 km/hr while fuel efficiency is 17.9 km/l.

The Mercedes CLA will be loaded with six airbags apart from ABS, EBD, ASR and some other features like panoramic roof, Bi-xenon headlights, reverse camera and a 12-speaker Harmon Kardon audio system. It will compete with the Audi A3 and knowing how well Mercedes has been performing in India off late, we can expect tough rivalry between the German brands. The CLA will be priced from around Rs. 30 lakhs (ex-showroom).
