2011 Mercedes Benz A-Class Concept

The Auto Expo is definitely going to be one of the main attractions of the year 2012 to watch out for with all the OEMs lining up their models to be showcased at the event. Recently Mercedes Benz has announced that it is going to launch its SLS AMG Roadster model at the Auto Expo. It seems like the car manufacturer has more to show in pipeline. Mercedes is also going to showcase it’s A class concept vehicle at the 2012 Auto Expo.

With the showcasing of the A class, Mercedes will be announcing its interest to foray into the compact class segment. The A class is driven by a 4 cylinder 2 litre petrol engine from the new M270 series with direct injection, turbo-charging and an all-aluminium construction that produces 210 BHP of power. Termed by Mercedes as the BLUE EFFICIENCY unit, it is mated to a 7 speed dual clutch transmission. The engine was designed to be installed in a transverse direction and with the help of advanced technologies; it offers high performance with low emissions. The first A class concept, codenamed Vision A93 was showcased by the company in 1993 and after showcasing the current concept at Shanghai Motor Show, it will be put up on display at the Delhi Auto Expo. The A class has been attributed an unique design which the company calls as “clean” concept.

The side view is structured by three prominent lines: the front structural edge forms a dropping line towards the rear, while the pronounced shoulder muscle over the rear axle emphasises the car’s coupé-like character. Another prominent feature to observe in would be the open side skirt and the A class rides on 20 inch wheels. The car features many new features like COMMAND Online which lets you integrate your smartphone with the operating system of the vehicle. When the phone is inserted into the recess provided in the centre console, it is automatically synchronised with the COMAND multimedia system. All the functions of the smartphone, including internet radio, email and social networks such as Twitter or Facebook, are shown as applications on the 17.8 cm display and can be operated via the rotary/push control. The headlamps are full LED and the daytime running lights consist of 90 optical fibres with aluminium sleeves, and they are arranged in a wing-shape within the headlamp.
