MG Hector Plus

The MG Hector Plus is the more practical version of the Hector along with some minor cosmetic updates which was launched in July 2020, nearly 10 months after the MG Hector. The additional third row allows one to carry 6-7 passengers based on the seating layout in absolute comfort.

Pros –  Feature Loaded, Spacious And Comfortable Cabin
Cons – Boot Space, Turbo Lag Lower Down, Lack Of Gearbox Options In The Diesel Trim

MG Hector Plus Exterior

The Hector Plus gets some minor changes in the headlamps when compared to the one offered on the Hector. The fog lamps are also revamped and don’t get the tilted Fu Manchu moustache style chrome treatment as was offered in the Hector. Instead, it gets a bow like black treatment. The bumper on the Hector Plus has also received a minor change. The Hector Plus is 65mm longer than the Hector however the width and the height has been unchanged for the Hector Plus and is the same as the one on the Hector. The wheelbase is also the same and stands at 2750mm. From the rear, one will notice that the red stripe is not present in the Hector Plus as was the case with the Hector. It gets a new bumper and a revised skid plate. The bumper also gets two fake exhausts.

MG Hector Plus Interior

The Hector Plus is different from the Hector when it comes to the seating capacity inside the cabin. It is equipped with the captain seats in the second row and also gets a third row which can accommodate two passengers. However, the knee room in the third row is compromised.

Just like the Hector, the Hector Plus gets a 10.4-inch HD infotainment system that is loaded with features like inbuilt voice commands in more than 100 languages, remote vehicle control, vehicle car status, geofencing, smart drive and much more.

It also gets a 5G ready Airtel sim card and embedded apps like the Tom Tom navigation and Gaana premium account. The ambient lighting and of course the sunroof which can be opened using voice commands is the unique selling point of this car. Other features include front and rear parking sensors, heated mirrors, electric adjustment for the front seats and much more.

MG Hector Plus Space

The boot space goes for a toss in the Hector Plus with a third row. The boot space of the Hector Plus is 155-litres with the third row up which increases to 530-litres when it is folded. The car has door pockets that can accommodate one-litre bottles at ease. It doesn’t get a rear armrest resulting in no cupholders at the rear.

MG Hector Plus Engine Performance

The MG Hector Plus gets a 1451cc petrol engine which is offered in manual and DCT gearbox options. The petrol trim makes 143 PS of power at 5000 RPM with a torque output of 250 Nm between 1600-3600 RPM. There is some turbo lag below 2000 RPM but above 2000 RPM, the Hector Plus loves to be revved. The mid-range and the high end is very good and it redlines up to 6000 RPM.

The diesel engine is a 1956cc unit that gets the option of a manual transmission. It makes 170 PS of power at 3750 RPM with a torque output of 350 Nm between 1750-2500 RPM. In the city, one might feel some amount of discomfort changing gears in the Hector Plus. Out on the highway, the engine gets vocal but in a good way. The mid-range is quite punchy but the top end performance is not that good. The power starts to taper off after 4000 RPM on the diesel trim.

MG Hector Plus Mileage

The ARAI mileage of MG Hector Plus in the petrol manual is 14.1 km/l. It gets up to 15.8 km/l in the petrol hybrid. One can expect around 9-11 km/l in real-world conditions in the manual and 10-12 km/l in the hybrid option.

The ARAI mileage of the MG Hector Plus in the diesel trim is 17.41 km/l. One can expect around 11-12 km/l in the city which would increase up to 12-13 km/l out on the highway.

MG Hector Plus Handling

The clutch on the MG Hector Plus is light however the car does require careful gear changes. The suspension is on the softer side which means that the ride quality is good however there is a tendency of the car to make the passengers experience a bit of vertical movement at high speeds. The Hector Plus is not a car that loves to be driven around the corners and some amount of body roll can be experienced at the corners even at normal speeds. The braking performance is good with disc brakes at the front and at the rear.

MG Hector Plus Comfort

The Zinc tint of the seats gives one a feel of a luxury car. The front seats are extremely comfortable with the option of ventilation. If someone is looking to experience the comfort of a mini limousine at a reasonable price point, the second row of the Hector Plus is the place to be.

MG Hector Plus Safety

The MG HectorPlus gets a lot of safety features such as 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX Child Seat Anchors, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Rear Parking Sensors, Hill Hold Control and 360° cameras.

MG Hector Plus Service

MG is not yet there when it comes to the number of service centres in India. Understanding that MG launched its first product as the Hector in 2019, it is trying its level best to increase the number of service centres to offer top-notch services to its customers.

MG Hector Plus Upcoming Models

The Hector Plus was launched in July 2020 which was later given an option of a 7 seater in January 2021. As of now, MG hasn’t announced any updates on the facelift of the Hector Plus.

MG HectorPlus vs Tata Safari

The Tata Safari has the best build quality among its competitors. The biggest drawback of the Safari is the fact that it is not offered in the petrol trim whereas the Hector Plus does get the option of the same. The Safari is offered with four wheel drive which is not offered in the Hector Plus in the Indian market.

MG HectorPlus vs Toyota Innova Crysta

The Toyota Innova Crysta is offered with both manual as well as automatic gearbox options in both the diesel and the petrol trims. The base variant of the Innova Crysta gets 3 airbags compared to the 2 offered in Hector Plus. The HectorPlus is 15mm smaller, 5mm wider and 35mm slimmer than the Toyota Innova Crysta.

MG HectorPlus vs Mahindra XUV 700

The Mahindra XUV 700 is powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine which produces 200 PS of power compared to the 1.5-litre petrol engine offered in the Hector Plus producing 143 PS of power. It’s no brainer that the Hector Plus is not a driver’s car in any respect. It’s more of a family car made for weekend trips. If someone is looking for sheer drivability in the petrol trim then the XUV 700 is the way to go. The diesel engine with a capacity of 2.0-litre on the Hector Plus produces a peak power of 170 PS though compared to 155 PS produced in the XUV 700 which has the 2.2-litre engine.
