Michelin has introduced the Primacy 5 in India, marking the company’s first locally manufactured passenger car tyre for the domestic market. The launch represents an expansion of Michelin’s manufacturing operations in India, where it has been producing truck and bus tyres for more than a decade.
The Primacy 5 is priced from Rs. 10,000 and is available in sizes ranging from 16 to 22 inches, making it suitable for a wide variety of passenger vehicles, including SUVs and premium luxury models. Michelin has also confirmed that additional locally manufactured products, including the Pilot Sport 4 SUV, Pilot Sport 5 and LTX Trail ST, will be introduced in phases.
According to Michelin, the Primacy 5 has been engineered with a focus on safety, efficiency and durability. The company states that the tyre delivers improved wet and dry braking performance compared to competing products, with claims of shorter stopping distances on wet roads when both new and worn. Michelin also says the tyre offers improved fuel efficiency for internal combustion engine vehicles and can contribute to increased driving range in electric vehicles due to lower rolling resistance.
The French tyre maker further claims the Primacy 5 provides an 8 percent longer service life than the outgoing Primacy 4ST while also enhancing ride comfort.
Michelin says the tyre has been developed specifically for Indian road conditions and validated through independent testing after being benchmarked against competing products. The company stated that the new tyre has been tested on vehicles commonly driven in India.
Alongside the product launch, Michelin announced plans to strengthen its retail presence across the country. The company has expanded its distribution network to more than 800 sales points over the past year and aims to increase its reach beyond major metropolitan cities and Tier I markets.
Michelin also reiterated its long-term focus on India, citing the country’s growing demand for premium passenger vehicles and SUVs as a key factor behind its investment in local manufacturing.
