MINI launches Cooper S Convertible in India with new features and design
MINI has introduced the latest Cooper S Convertible in India at Rs. 58.50 lakhs (ex-showroom, before options), positioning it as the most affordable convertible currently on sale in the country. The model arrives as a full import and follows the recent launches of the JCW All4 and the Countryman SE All4, marking MINI’s third launch in three months.
The convertible is based on the Cooper S hatchback but adds a fabric roof that can be electrically folded in 18 seconds and closed in 15 seconds at speeds of up to 30 km/hr. In terms of styling, it retains MINI’s signature circular LED headlights with DRL rings, an octagonal grille outline, red ‘S’ accents and plastic body cladding. Distinguishing elements include traditional Union Jack tail-lights and a drop-down tailgate capable of supporting up to 80 kg. MINI offers 18-inch alloy wheels as standard.
Inside, the cabin carries forward the new-generation MINI design language, featuring a circular 9.4-inch OLED infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Harman Kardon sound system, wireless charging, a head-up display and ambient lighting. The dashboard gets a new black-and-beige knitted finish, while the powered front seats include a massaging function for the driver. Practicality remains modest, with boot capacity at 215 litres, dropping to 160 litres when the roof is folded.
Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 204 HP and 300 Nm, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The India-spec model is front-wheel drive only, with no manual option available. The convertible accelerates from 0-100 km/hr in 6.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 237 km/hr. MINI claims a fuel efficiency figure of 16.82 km/l. This model could also mark MINI’s final ICE-powered convertible as the brand transitions to an electric-only lineup.
