BMW Group considering to introduce MINI Electric in India

The BMW Group is considering to introduce MINI Electric in India. MINI’s first all-electric vehicle was revealed earlier this year and it will go on sale in the international market from March 2020.

The German carmaker says if the Indian market is ready to welcome electric mobility, they will introduce the MINI Electric. The BMW Group has a facility in Chennai to assemble CKD units and the company is likely to launch the MINI Electric in India via CKD to keep the price in check.

Currently, the German luxury carmaker is studying the feasibility of electric vehicles in India. They say it is very much linked to the ability of India to build infrastructure. It is an uphill task for our country to establish the charging infrastructure for mass-adoption of EVs.

The MINI Electric will be launched in the global market with a starting price of £24,400 (Rs. 22.45 lakhs). It will be available in three trims – Level 1, 2 and 3. The electric motor produces 184 HP and 270 Nm of torque. It does 0-100 km/hr in 7.3 seconds.

It has a total driving range of 233 km on a single charge. With rapid charger, the battery charges from 0 to 80 percent in 36 minutes while the regular 3-pin home charger takes 12 hours to charge the battery fully.
