Maruti Suzuki has made big plans of launching multiple new products every year for the next few years. It is setting up a new car facility in Gujarat which will start trial production in January 2017 and full fledged manufacturing in May 2017, the first car likely to be rolled out is the YCA which is the codename for the next generation Wagon R. The all new Wagon R will be offered in both 5-seater and 7-seater versions, the latter rivalling the soon to be launched Datsun GO+.

The upcoming new generation Maruti Suzuki Wagon R will share many components with other models from the company, including the next generation Swift. The vehicle will draw power from the same 1.0-litre K-Series petrol engine while an all new diesel engine (currently under development) will also be offered. Looking at the sales of the Stingray version of the Wagon R, it seems highly unlikely it will make an appearance in the next gen Wagon R. The company will offer the car with both manual and automatic gearbox options.

Maruti Suzuki has already commenced the development of its upcoming car factory in Gujarat. The new plant hasn’t been accepted well by shareholders of the company as the ownership is being given to Suzuki of Japan who will sell cars to Maruti at a no profit and no loss basis. Maruti Suzuki saves investment in the plant, helping them to invest more in R&D and marketing activities with the reserve cash. Shareholders were worried that Suzuki would sell Maruti cars at a premium or sell them the factory at a later time for a higher sum.
