Map My India CEO and Executive Director Rohan Verma has confirmed the update

Ola S1 Pro now offers onboard navigation using Map My India, becomes the country’s first 2-wheeler to have the feature

Ola Electric is currently in the process rolling out its official Move OS 2.0 to its S1 Pro customers and, now, it has been confirmed that the OS successfully features inbuilt navigation from Map My India thereby becoming the country’s first 2-wheeler to get it.

Map My India CEO and Executive Director Rohan Verma has congratulated Ola Electric in 1 of his recent tweets for using his company’s technology in the scooters. He has also tagged an user who has demonstrated the new navigation feature on his scooter.

All this time, the feature was in beta testing stage and was offered only to select customers. But, now, it will be rolled out to all the scooters in phases by this month end.

Unlike Ather 450X which requires a subscription for using the scooter’s navigation service borrowed from Google API, Ola S1 Pro’s system is absolutely free to use. Also, Ather’s navigation system lacks many features available in the regular Google Maps mobile app.

The user tagged by Rohan can be seen seamlessly typing the desired location on the scooter’s display and starting the navigation service. Map My India is constantly adding to and updating maps real-time.

Users can use http://mappls.com or the Mappls app to report issues and/or add places on the map which will then reflect in Ola scooter’s search bar usage.

According to industry insider Yogesh Brar, Ola Electric is also working on its own mapping service. Relying on its own navigation service will help the company scale up and roll out its upcoming electric 4-wheeler quite faster.

Own navigation also helps the company quickly update charging stations, and other key locations without the need of a mediator. But, the process is still in its early stages and the company will continue using Map My India at least until this year.

In addition to inbuilt navigation, the Move OS 2.0 features music playback, smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth, new eco mode for increased range, keyless locking/unlocking via mobile, and cruise control.
