When Renault India launched the Koleos in India, it was already overpriced. Now the French automaker plans to hike prices by Rs. 1 lakh citing the increase in import costs caused by depreciating rupee. The current price of the Koleos is Rs. 22.99 lakh and the new price will be Rs. 23.99 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). This price hike will be effective from 1st January, 2012. The Koleos is a CBU (completely built unit) and attracts heavy duties. Launched in September this year, the Koleos is powered by a 2.0-liter dCi diesel motor which produces 150 PS of peak power at 4000 RPM and 320 Nm of peak torque 2000 RPM. Based on the Nissan X-trail platform, the Koleos has 4-wheel drive (with 3 modes), 6 airbags, ABS, EBD and cruise control as standard.

“This has been necessitated by the increase in the cost of raw materials and fluctuations in the currency market. Until now we have been absorbing the increases, but we now have to reflect an element of these costs in our pricing. The flagship Renault Koleos with it’s outstanding levels of refinement and luxury remains excellent value for money. It has been very well received in the Indian market has already established a strong position in the Premium SUV segment in India,” Marc Nassif, MD, Renault India, said.
