Renault India is on a roll, post the success of the Duster in India. The company plans to bring more Dacia sourced products in the country. When Dacia unveiled the latest generation Lodgy in March this year, we speculated about it being brought to India. Turns out, Renault is indeed considering bringing in the Lodgy MPV, positioning it right against the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. However the launch won’t happen before 2014 as the French automaker is now turning its focus on building its dealership network.

The Renault Lodgy won’t be difficult to manufacture at the Renault-Nissan manufacturing facility in Chennai. The vehicle is based on the Logan platform, on which even the Duster is based. Thus both the Duster and Lodgy will end up sharing most of their parts, including the engine. The Lodgy will be modified in terms of exteriors and interior design at Renault’s Mumbai design studio, based on the needs of the Indian market. Even the Duster’s interiors were pepped up prior to launch.

The Renault Lodgy will be offered with both petrol and diesel engines. The diesel engine will be the same 1.5-litre dCi engine that produces 85 BHP of power and 200 Nm of torque. The petrol engine will be the 1.6-litre motor which does duty on the Duster, producing a peak power of 100 BHP of power and 145 Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Renault India is expected to price the Lodgy between 7-9 lakhs.
