Royal Enfield launches Classic 650 in India, blending retro design with modern features
Royal Enfield has officially launched the much-anticipated Classic 650 in the Indian market, with prices beginning at Rs. 3.37 lakhs (ex-showroom, Chennai). Drawing inspiration from the brand’s widely popular Classic 350, the new Classic 650 aims to combine retro styling with a modern powertrain and enhanced touring capabilities.
The motorcycle is offered in three distinct variants — Hotrod, Classic and Chrome. The entry-level Hotrod version, priced at Rs. 3.37 lakhs, is available in two paint schemes: Bruntingthorpe Blue and Vallam Red. The mid-tier Classic trim, finished in an exclusive Teal colour, is slightly more premium at Rs. 3.41 lakhs. At the top of the range is the Chrome variant, which sports a striking Black Chrome finish and is priced at Rs. 3.50 lakhs.
These pricing tiers position the Classic 650 below the Royal Enfield Shotgun 650, despite the two models sharing the same underlying platform.
Stylistically, the Classic 650 pays homage to its 350cc sibling with timeless design elements such as a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, curved fenders and twin exhaust pipes styled after vintage pea shooters. The motorcycle’s visual appeal is further accentuated by its imposing road presence and distinctive colour options.
Structurally, the Classic 650 is built on a steel frame suspended by conventional telescopic front forks and twin rear shock absorbers. It rolls on wire-spoke wheels fitted with tube-type tyres, in keeping with its retro character.
Powering the new model is Royal Enfield’s familiar 648cc parallel-twin, air/oil-cooled engine, which delivers 46.3 BHP and 52.3 Nm of torque. The motor is paired with a six-speed gearbox featuring a slipper clutch for smoother downshifts.
Feature-wise, the Classic 650 blends classic aesthetics with modern touches. It comes equipped with LED headlamps and tail lamps, adjustable brake and clutch levers, a USB Type-C charging port, the brand’s Tripper Navigation system and dual-channel ABS for improved braking safety.
Bookings for the Royal Enfield Classic 650 are now open at authorised dealerships across the country. With its blend of nostalgic charm and updated engineering, the Classic 650 looks poised to appeal to both long-time Royal Enfield fans and new-age riders seeking character and performance.
