Skoda compact SUV spotted testing yet again but this time around more details have been revealed with the front profile spy shot. The prototype looks production-ready. It will get Skoda’s latest design language.

Set to be based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, the same as the Kushaq and Slavia models, the new SUV will differentiate itself by having a shorter wheelbase, allowing it to fit into the sub-4m category. This reduction in length, by approximately 230 mm compared to the Kushaq, is complemented by trimmed front and rear overhangs, ensuring compliance with the segment’s size constraints.

In terms of design, early glimpses suggest a continuation of Skoda’s signature aesthetic, with elements reminiscent of the Kushaq, albeit in a smaller package. The familiar split headlamp setup, slatted grille design and clean surfaces are expected to create a sharp look, possibly aimed at establishing a recognisable family resemblance.

One aspect where Skoda aims to make strides is in feature offerings. With promises of a more extensive feature set than its predecessors, including a 360-degree camera and an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite, Skoda intends to compete strongly in a segment where rivals already boast impressive feature lists.

Under the hood, the compact SUV will be powered by Skoda’s proven 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo petrol engine, delivering 115 HP and 178 Nm of torque. While some competitors offer multiple engine options, Skoda has opted to focus on refining and optimising this powerplant for efficiency and performance.

With aspirations for global sales, including markets in South America, South-East Asia and Africa, Skoda’s compact SUV is positioned as a key player in its India 2.5 plan. Pricing is expected to be competitive, ranging between Rs. 9 lakhs-14 lakhs (ex-showroom), placing it in direct contention with established rivals while offering a compelling alternative to budget options like the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.

Notably, Skoda is engaging its audience by involving them in the naming process for the upcoming SUV, adhering to its global SUV naming convention with names beginning with ‘K’ and ending with ‘Q’. With ten options shortlisted for consideration, including Kylaq, Kymaq, and Kaiq, the brand seeks to ensure a fitting moniker for its newest addition to the lineup.

Scheduled for launch in March 2025, the new compact SUV will compete with the likes of Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Tata Nexon and the likes.
