Suzuki is on a launch spree in India as after launching the Burgman and the GSX-S750, they have planned a launch for the Gixxer 250 and the V-Strom 650.

Suzuki Motorcycles India is developing a 250cc motorcycle specifically for the Indian market that will most likely use the very renowned, ‘Gixxer’ nomenclature. However, the possibility of a new terminology cannot be completely ruled out. This will be Suzuki’s second go at the naked 250cc segment after the Inazuma. The bike is only expected to be launched next year. For now, Suzuki have planned the launch of the V-Strom 650 next month which will compete with the Kawasaki Versys 650.

Engine duties for the Suzuki Gixxer 250 will be done by a 250cc, single-cylinder motor producing around 25 HP. There will be oil-cooling instead of liquid-cooling to keep the price in check. A 6-speed transmission should be offered but Suzuki might go on Yamaha’s path which offers only a 5-speed transmission with its FZ25 model. The Suzuki V-Strom 650 on the other hand has well-defined specs. It will be powered by a 645cc, liquid-cooled, V-twin engine mated to a 6-speed gearbox and will put out 71 HP and 62 Nm of peak torque.

Features like ABS and disc brakes at the front and rear on the Suzuki Gixxer 250 are naturally expected from a bike that will be launched in 2019. Suspension duties will most likely be performed by telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear.

The Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT, which is the off-road spec version of the the V-Strom 650 will be launched in India as the standard model. It will come with aluminium rims with stainless steel wire spokes. There are telescopic forks at the front and a mono-shock with rebound adjustment and a remote preload adjuster at the rear. There’s also a three-stage traction control system (two levels and a disengage option). Other features include a height adjustable windscreen, Suzuki’s easy start system and standard ABS which cannot be disengaged.

From the looks of it, Suzuki seems to be wanting a share in every bike segment that there is in India. So far, not much is known about the Gixxer 250 and a surprise package cannot be ruled out. The bike is expected to be priced between Rs. 1.4 lakhs – Rs. 1.5 lakhs (ex-showroom). For the adventure guys out there though, ,the Suzuki V-Strom 650 looks a well-packaged off-road motorcycle that is ready for some mudslinging. If Suzuki manages to price it lower than than the Kawasaki Versys 650 that comes at a price of Rs 6.69 lakhs (ex-showroom), it will surely be a better bet.
