Tata Altroz iTurbo DCT
Well, Tata did surprise us by offering the DCT with its naturally aspirated petrol motor

The Tata Altroz iTurbo DCT is most likely coming!

Tata Motors is set to pair its DCT with the Altroz iTurbo and Nexon turbo-petrol soon. At present, the carmaker pairs the 6-speed gearbox with only the 1.2-litre atmospheric petrol engine of its premium hatchback.

Vice President of Tata Motors, Mohan Savarkar, has disclosed the fact that the DCT unit, named the DCA by Tata, “can handle more torque and can easily be paired with Tata’s turbo-petrol engine as well.”

Thus, it is clear that Tata has the Altroz iTurbo DCT and Nexon turbo-petrol DCT in the pipeline and both models could well be launched in the coming months.

The Nexon will hugely benefit from the introduction of DCT to its lineup

While the 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine in the Altroz iTurbo makes a maximum of 110 PS and 140 Nm of peak torque, the same motor is tuned to produce 120 PS and 170 Nm in the compact SUV.

Do note that the Altroz iTurbo has thus far only been sold with a 5-speed manual transmission, while the Nexon turbo-petrol is offered with both a 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT options. The latter gearbox should be dropped to make way for the DCT.

When the Punch turbo-petrol is introduced, it is likely that Tata will offer the compact crossover with the DCT option as well. The 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine powering the car should continue to come with the 5-speed manual and AMT choices.
