Tata Motors will be launching the Hexa crossover in India later this year. The launch has been confirmed by the president of the Indian brand.

A butch looking front end is a necessity for a crossover to succeed in India

With continuously dwindling sales and the not-so-great response to the recent launches, Tata Motors has decided to get things moving in order to claw back some sales. Most of the vehicles in the current portfolio are either too old or too basic to compete with other contemporary rivals. Hence the carmaker would either update or replace a few products from its lineup. The Safari Storme got a slight makeover recently which added features in some variants and took away a few features from the base variant. Next in line is the Tata Aria which is supposed to be replaced by the upcoming Tata Hexa by the end of this year.

The Tata Hexa concept was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year and at first glance, one would say that it’s just a makeover of the Tata Aria due to its striking resemblance with the current version of the SUV. However, except the design elements, both the vehicles have very less in common. With an uprated powertrain, the vehicle will make a compelling case for itself. Interiors have been upgraded too and now feel much more premium. The SUV will be the first Tata car to be equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed automatic transmission is also likely to be added.

The Tata Hexa will be powered by a 2.2-litre VariCOR turbo diesel engine producing 154 BHP of power and 400 Nm of torque which will make it a good performer. The styling upgrades for the exterior make the SUV look butch. Redesigned grille, new bumper and a sculpted bonnet add to the looks. The interiors get a new steering wheel, a bigger infotainment system (a Harman unit most probably), ambient mood lighting along with a few other features. If the pricing is right at the time of launch and if the vehicle does come with all the features and upgrades promised, it should sell in decent numbers.
