Interiors of the Tata Nexon have been captured prior to its official launch in India. The compact SUV is will be launched in August 2017.
With preference towards compact SUVs on the rise, car manufacturers are constantly improving their products to gain the top spot in the Indian market. With the launch of improved and modern products, Tata Motors is also working hard to leave behind its mediocre image in the country. After launching the Tiago and Hexa in the market, the company is all set to bring the much-awaited Nexon in the coming month. While test mules have been spotted multiple times in the past, it is the first instance of the interiors being captured.
Based on the X1 platform, the Nexon shares its underpinnings with other Tata models. The exterior design is based on Tata’s IMPACT design language and looks fresh and modern. The Nexon is 3995 mm long, 1811 mm wide, 1607 mm tall and has a ground clearance of 200 mm. It’s the compact footprint, and the resulting ease of driving, which will make it an ideal choice for urban dwellers. For improved aesthetics, the higher variants will be offered with 16-inch alloy wheels as well.
It is clear from the spyshots that the Nexon will carry a contemporary interior layout. The dual-tone interior is partly finished in beige and a generous amount of silver accents can be seen all across the cabin. The door pockets appear to be very accommodating and small storage nets are also provided near the foot-well. All these characteristics of the cabin hint to a practical vehicle, which will be easy to live with.
The multi-function steering wheel and instrument cluster seems to be borrowed from other new-generation Tata cars. A 6.5-inch Harman-Kardon infotainment unit sits on top of the central console. The display is larger than the current units on offer in Tata cars, which is a welcome move. A drive mode selector knob is also visible beside the gear lever. A driver armrest, which is a boon on long journeys, can also be seen above the covered storage areas.
The other spyshot shows the rear seat and AC vents for the rear passengers. From the looks of it, the rear seat will have a fair amount of under-thigh support. The captured variant seems to be the top-spec version of the Nexon as it comes with all the bells and whistles.
The Tata Nexon will be powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, diesel motor, churning out 110 PS of power and 260 NM of torque. Besides the 6-speed manual gearbox, the engine is expected to be mated to an AMT unit also. Tata Motors is working on a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol motor for the Nexon, which will be introduced at a later stage. If priced aggressively, the Nexon will give tough competition to the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport.
