Tata Motors has started work on their new premium C-segment sedan which is internally codenamed as Tata X452 and is known as Peregrin, which has been leaked on a document.

The Peregrin is derived from the word Peregrine, which is a powerful falcon bird. As well all know, Tata Motors codenames their cars under development after the names of birds.

This project was earlier said to be cancelled and instead they were planning to introduce a premium B-SUV. However, the C-segment sedan has now got a green light from the Indian carmaker and is under development.

We haven’t spotted any test mules yet, which means it is in its early stage of development. The Peregrin is based on the ALFA platform, which is also shared with the Altroz hatchback.

The production version will end up looking like an Altroz with a boot but we expect Tata Motors to make some changes with inspiration from the E-Vision concept sedan.

It is expected to get a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine and 1.5-litre diesel motor. The sedan is likely to be introduced later in 2021. It will compete with the Maruti Ciaz, Honda City, Volkswagen Vento and the likes.

For now, Tata Motors is gearing up to introduce the production version of the HBX micro SUV and the 7-seater Gravitas by the second half of this year.
