Punch EV expected to get more features than ICE counterpart

Tata Punch EV launch expected by the end of this year

Tata Motors is all set to expand its electric vehicle lineup with the imminent launch of the Tata Punch EV in November 2023. The upcoming compact electric vehicle will retain the design elements of the ICE version of the Punch while having an all-electric powertrain under the hood.

The EV will be sharing the majority of its body panels, alloy wheel design and dimensions with the regular Punch. However, it will get a slightly revised front-end design with no grille, and might also come with new detailing on the headlights and the tail lights to set it apart from its internal combustion engine sibling. It will also feature prominent ‘EV’ badges both inside and out.

It will be based on the same Tata’s ALFA platform. Inside the cabin, the EV model will get the same 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and the recently introduced electric sunroof. However, the electric model will get a new two-spoke steering wheel. It might come with an illuminated logo display on the horn pad.

Tata Motors have also redesigned the centre console for the electric version, where conventional gear lever makes way for a new rotary drive selector. Some recent spy shots also spot a camera system up front and on the ORVMs which makes us believe that it will also get a 360 degree parking camera system.

Although specific details regarding the battery pack and technical specifications have not been revealed yet, it is expected to get the same powertrain as the Tiago and Tigor EVs.

The Tigor gets a 26 kWh Lithium-ion battery pack with 306 km claimed range and a 74 HP motor. The same specs might be offered with the Punch EV.

The Tata Punch EV is expected to come in the price range of Rs. 13-15 lakhs (ex-showroom). It will compete directly with the Citroen eC3 in the Indian market.
