The power induced Safari Storme Varicor 400 gets 400 Nm of torque

Already available at dealerships since the beginning of December, Tata Motors has officially launched the new Safari Storme VX variant in the country with prices starting at Rs. 13.25 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new VX trim gets more power pumped out from the same engine while the torque curve has seen a massive surge that is sure to bring a wide grin on the driver’s face. Also available now is a much needed 6-speed gearbox that will make highway runs easier.

The Tata Safari Storme VX variant is powered by the same 2.2-litre 16-valve, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with VTT (Variable Turbine Technology), but with power uprated to 156 PS at 4000 RPM and 400 Nm of peak torque available between 1750-2500 RPM. Handling all that torque is a new 6-speed manual gearbox in both 4×2 and 4×4 drive options and comes with an Electronic Shift on-Fly (ESOF) unit. The Safari Storme also gets a self adjusting clutch for more balanced power while the Limited Slip Differential (LSD) on the 4×4 trim ensures that the macho SUV can negotiate any kind of terrain with ease.

As a result, the Tata Safari Storme VX can do the 0-100 km/hr run in less than 13 seconds while returning an ARAI certified fuel efficiency figure of 13.9 km/l. For the off-roading junkies, the 200 mm ground clearance and 33 percent gradability should sound impressive without having to compromise on creature comforts. In terms of safety, the SUV is loaded with the essentials including dual front airbags, ABS and EBD.

Other salient features include a ConnectNEXT Harman audio system with 6-speakers and Bluetooth telephony; USB, AUX and iPod connectivity while the screen doubles up as a reverse parking sensor display. The multi-function steering is carried over from the Zest and gets mounted controls. The Safari Storme also comes with PES headlamps for better illumination and unwanted glare. With the facelift having arrived earlier this year, the VX trim gets no cosmetic changes. That said, the company is offering a host of optional accessories that are visible in the new TVC below.
