Tata Motors is re-aligning the Nano line-up by discontinuing the existing non-power steering equipped variants and adding a new base variant with power steering. The CNG Nano continues as it is in XM trim.

Tata Nano Twist XE
Tata Motors will offer only two variants of the petrol Nano

You read it first on MotorBeam. We have been breaking a lot of Tata Motors scoops of late. Remember we were the first to confirm about the Bolt launch being postponed to January 2015. Now we get news about Tata Motors next launch in the country, the Nano Twist XE. The Nano hasn’t set the sales chart on fire but in September 2014, the company did manage to sell more than 1700 units of the car which is an increase in the right direction. Tata Motors is trying to reposition the Nano from being a cheap car to a city car for the youth.

Tata Motors has four variants of the Nano on sale right now, the CNG and top variant will continue unchanged. Thus the Nano emax XM and Nano Twist XT will continue to be sold as it is. The Nano LX is being axed completely while the Nano CX is being replaced by the Nano Twist XE (Jaguar has nothing to do with this). So the new Nano line-up will consist of three variants, one CNG and two Twist models. Twist in the Nano range signifies power steering. Thus the Nano Twist XE gets the EPAS system along with a bigger steering wheel. The other new feature in the XE (which wasn’t there in the CX) is the new instrument cluster with Driver Infotainment System (consists of a trip meter, digital clock, average fuel economy and distance to empty readings).

It is thus safe to say that the Nano Twist XE is nothing but the Nano CX with three new features. The addition of a power steering to a lower variant of the Nano will certainly boost the appeal of the car, thereby attracting more buyers. The Nano XE will be priced slightly more than the discontinued Nano CX variant. Tata had stopped production of the Nano CX and LX variants sometime back and is clearing stock of the same. The Nano XT variant gets all the features of the Nano LX such as body coloured bumpers, wheel caps, power window, central locking, keyless entry, audio system, etc. The Nano Twist XE will be available in three colours – white, silver and gold. An increase in ARAI mileage is expected.
