The Top 10 car exports list for April 2017 sees Ford Figo making a big jump from tenth spot to third spot while the Maruti Baleno has slipped.

Top 10 Car Exports From India

The list of cars exported from India and the cars sold in India are being dominated by two players, Ford for the former and Maruti Suzuki for the latter. Maruti cars are in huge demand in the country for the fuel-efficiency and nationwide service network their cars offer and of course the ease of maintenance these Indo-Japanese cars come with.

One glance at the Top 10 car exports table and one can see three Ford and Hyundai cars making for 60 percent of the table. The Ford EcoSport continues to dominate the top 10 list yet again by selling 7812 units in April 2017 vs 6179 units in April 2016, thereby posting an increase of over 26 percent. The Ford Figo hatchback which just sold 1355 units and finished tenth in April 2016, climbed up the ladder and stood at the third spot, selling 6728 numbers thereby posting an increase of over 396 percent!

Another Ford in the list was the Aspire which sold 2991 units in April 2017 vs 2405 units in April 2016. Hyundai has been one of the country’s largest car exporters and has been the number 1 car exporter for the last two fiscals. Hyundai’s popular SUV, the Creta stood at fifth position by selling 4332 units for April 2017 as opposed to just 2215 units in April 2016. Both the Grand i10 and Xcent slipped one position by selling 3278 and 1849 units respectively for April 2017.

The Chevrolet Beat continued to hold on the second position for April 2017 as well and sold 7667 units vs 5537 units in April 2016. A week back General Motors announced it will be shutting down operations at the Halol plant effective 18th May 2017 and will be focusing on exports only. The company recently launched the new Beat hatch for export to Mexican and Central and South American markets and is all geared up to launch the Beat sedan later this year in those markets.

The Nissan Micra clinched the fourth spot by selling 4877 units for April 2017 vs 5236 units in April 2016, recording a fall of over 7 percent, while the Volkswagen Polo too fell one spot lower standing at the tenth spot by selling 1376 units for April 2017.

The Maruti Baleno fell to the eighth spot from the fourth spot. It sold a meagre 1905 units vs 5003 units in April 2016. The Baleno was affected by capacity constraints at the company’s Manesar facility where the flagship Maruti hatch is being manufactured. With the company’s Gujarat plant now becoming operational and manufacturing both the Baleno as well as the Baleno RS, the exports for this premium hatchback are expected to soon get back on track.
