Top 25 Car Sales April 2018

The first month of the FY 2018-19 has started off on a positive note. Yes, overall sales for the month of April 2018 have been better than that of March 2018. Maruti’s Dzire claims the coveted number 1 spot from the Alto and the latter currently holds the third position. The company’s Swift hatchback now sits at the second position. While the table above is self-explanatory, let us take you through the other cars that couldn’t make it to the top selling list.

Skoda continues to remain the underdog in the Indian passenger car market with total sales of just 1400 units. The Rapid, Kodiaq and Octavia sold 810, 161 and 309 numbers respectively while the Superb sold 120 units in the month of April. FCA sold a total of 1973 units, of which 1908 units were contributed by the Jeep Compass. The Punto sold 61 units while the Linea managed just 4 units. German carmaker Volkswagen sold a total of 3107 units in April. The Polo, Vento and Ameo sold 1584, 466 and 922 numbers respectively while the premium cars like Tiguan and Passat managed to find 100 and 37 homes respectively.

Datsun’s redi-GO, GO and GO+ contribute 1972, 380 and 457 units respectively to Nissan’s overall sales of 3526 units while the company’s own Micra sold 405 units, Sunny sold 131 units and the Terrano sold 181 units in April 2018. Renault registered total sales of 7422 units with Kwid contributing over 78 percent to the total sales. The Captur’s sales are still dismal at 188 units while the Lodgy sold 143 units and the Duster managed to sell 1299 units.

Ford sold a total of 7428 units. 795 units came from the Figo, 918 units from the Aspire and 364 units from the Endeavour. The latest launch from the company, the Freestyle sold 1217 units in the month of April 2018. Honda’s Brio and Jazz saw sales of 397 and 1747 units respectively while the BR-V managed to sell 667 units last month. The second generation Amaze will be launched this month.

Toyota’s Innova continues to bring in the volumes for the Japanese auto giant while the Liva, Etios, Corolla, Fortuner and Camry registered sales of 845, 1294, 263, 1939 and 32 units respectively. The newly launched Yaris sold 1585 units in April 2018 and that’s quite a start for a mid-size sedan that’s available only with a petrol engine.

Tata Motors sold a total of 17,235 units in April 2018 with major contributions coming from the Tiago, Nexon, Tigor and the Zest. The Tigor and Zest sold 2607 and 828 units respectively while the Bolt, Safari Storme and the Hexa managed to find 128, 419 and 818 homes. Mahindra’s decade-old workhorses, the Scorpio and Bolero continue to rake in the volumes for the company. Leaving them apart, the Indian carmaker sold 1671 units of the KUV100, 356 units of the Xylo, 2053 units of the TUV300 and 2995 units of the XUV500.

With a market share of close to 16%, Hyundai remains second in the Indian market when it comes to sales. The Korean carmaker sold a total of 46,735 units in April 2018. Apart from the Gypsy, all other cars of Maruti, the number one player in the Indian car market can be seen in the list above. The carmaker sold a total of 1,63,434 units in April 2018.
