Toyota has announced that bookings for the Hilux are open

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has officially unveiled and opened bookings for the Hilux, today in India. The pickup truck’s launch will take place in March 2022.

To be delivered to customers from the same month, the rugged vehicle comes with a trapezoidal grille with chrome surround, LED headlights, small fog lamps, flared wheel arch cladding, a cargo bed and LED rear lights.

Riding on 18-inch alloy wheels, the India-spec Hilux will feature front parking sensors, and will only be sold as a more practical double cab model.

Moving inside, one would see the car sporting leather seats, metallic accents in the cabin which will come with features like dual zone auto air-conditioning, 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, among others.

Toyota simply announced that the pickup truck has a turbocharged motor making 500 Nm. Thus, it is clear that the vehicle will use the 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine from the Fortuner with the same 204 PS output.

Although no word has arrived about the gearbox options which will be offered with the vehicle, the model showed during the official presentation did feature an automatic gearbox. Expect to see a 6-speed manual option thrown in as well.

Apart from having 2 drive modes – Eco and Power – the India-spec Hilux will feature a 4-wheel drive system, an auto limited-slip differential (LSD), electronic differential lock (EDL) and active traction control (A-TRAC) as well.

Based on the Japanese firm’s Innovative Multipurpose Vehicle platform, the car can ford rivers 700 mm deep and also comes with a tyre angle monitor and safety tech including 6 airbags.

With details like the Toyota Hilux bookings and launch timeline disclosed, only the price remains left out. As per the details we’ve received, the Hilux will cost Rs. 35 lakhs (ex-showroom) in India.
