TVS iQube ST 3.4

TVS To Launch Affordable E-Scooter, Expected To Be Equipped With A Smaller Battery Pack With Less Features

TVS launched the iQube in 2020. The electric scooter arrived in style and has been a popular EV in terms of sales. With the learnings from the iQube, the Indian manufacturer is planning to launch more affordable EV scooters before the festive season.

The TVS iQube has one of the most expansive lineups in the segment. There are 5 variants available with 3 battery capacities. The pricing for the base iQube with a 2.2 kWh costs Rs. 1.07 Lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs. 1.6 Lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-spec 5.1 kWh version.

TVS plans to position the affordable electric scooter below the standard iQube with fewer features. As the government subsidies decrease and inflation rises, manufacturers need to focus on the affordable segment. The company will price the affordable electric scooter between Rs. 90,000 to Rs. 1 lakh (ex-showroom).

While the details about the battery capacity haven’t been revealed, we can safely assume that the scooter will feature the base 2.2 kWh battery pack or a slightly smaller one. There is also the possibility that, considering the popularity of the Jupiter model range, the affordable electric scooter will be part of this line.

TVS is also reportedly working on the CNG version of the Jupiter. If the company launches the electric version as part of the model range, it will make the Jupiter the first scooter available in electric, petrol, and CNG versions.

Outlook

The company could still launch the affordable electric scooter as part of the XL Moped. Recently, TVS patented the names “XL EV” and “E-XL”. The XL Moped presents itself as an excellent value-for-money proposition in the ICE 2-wheeler market. It remains to be seen whether TVS will launch it under the XL Moped model range or the Jupiter model range.

TVS plans to launch the affordable E-scooter during or before this festive season.
