Maruti is working on an all-new MPV that will be produced with Toyota.

2019 Maruti Ertiga Review
The new MPV will be positioned above the Ertiga

Maruti has always rocked the mass-market segments with its offerings. However, the year 2019 witnessed the arrival of some new players in the market who shook up the automotive market. Now, it is Maruti who is planning to go all guns blazing to target the high-end SUV and MPV segments.

It has been learnt that Suzuki is working on a new MPV which is being developed with Toyota. The MPV is expected to be launched in 2023 and it will be priced close to Rs. 20 lakhs. It will be manufactured at Toyota’s plant in Bidadi, Karnataka.

The new MPV will be sold by Toyota too but both the models will have differences in styling, unlike the Baleno, Ciaz and Vitara Brezza which will be cross-shared by both the companies. The differences between Suzuki’s and Toyota’s versions of the MPV will be significant so that both the companies can gain from it.

What engine will be used to power the new MPV is still unclear but Suzuki will be borrowing Toyota’s petrol-hybrid tech. Maruti’s 1.5-litre diesel engine can’t be ruled out too. The new MPV will be slotted above the Ertiga and XL6 in the automaker’s India portfolio.
